If you want a Vette that you can
drive, take to the car shows, and appreciate in value then this is the car
for you. 68 thru 72 Corvette's have chrome bumpers and are the most
desirable of the C3 vette's. Also, horsepower was at it's highest and
started dropping after 1970. The 327 engine was only available for the
1968 corvette, as it became the 350 engine in 1969. With the Mid-Year
Vette's (1963 thru 1967) bringing in the most money and out of most peoples
price range, the 68-82 C3 Vettes are in more peoples price range, are
becoming more collectible and the price is rising on them also.
I have owned this Bright Yellow Corvette for almost 2 years now, it has a
clear Florida Title and is currently insured by Hagerty. Restoration
was done in 2000 and roughly 5,000 miles were put on since then. The
car had been garaged by the previous owner and I have also kept it in my
garage too, thus keeping the interior and paint in excellent condition.
It has a 4 speed, 327 engine with a mild cam, chrome valve covers and air
cleaner, new intake and carb, headers and exhaust, and separate on/off
controllable electric engine cooling fan. I was told the engine is
period correct, but it is not numbers matching. Previous owner told me
he thinks it putting out somewhere close to 400hp, all I can say is that it
is very fast. The car does not leak and does not smoke, clutch is
strong and shifts very easy. It is meant to be driven. As you
can see in the pics, everything underneath the car looks like new, nice and
clean with new parts including suspension, exhaust. The top, which is
never up, looks like brand new. And the interior is in like new
condition. The side windows even still have that great 60's style "astro
ventilation" script on them. Now as most of you know, all
Vettes came with hydraulic pop-up headlights and windshield wiper door in
front of the windshield. These were known to break a lot and some
people permanently fixed them. Well, on my Corvette, the Wiper Door
has been deactivated and the Pop-up Headlights have been converted to fixed
recessed headlights. The wipers still function, and the headlights
work great, its a different look to distinguish this Vette from the
thousands of others made. Since I bought it, I have
replaced all 4 brakes which included 4 new pads and 4 new calipers, fuel
pump, gas tank and float, rebuilt carb, new front and rear chrome bumpers,
new door handles (very expensive). If you want a Vette that you can
drive, take to the car shows, and appreciate in value then this is the car
for you. I am a car collector and enthusiast, and when I bought this
Vette 2 years ago, I probably had the same dilema that you have in looking
for a C3 Vette. Regarding Corvettes more than any other car, most
people think they need to find a low mileage, numbers matching, original
unrestored car. Besides spending TOP Dollar, would you want to drive
that car more than a few miles from home fearing you might break down, park
it anywhere being nervous as to who might touch it or steal it. Or
even being caught in the rain? I personally want to enjoy driving
these cars as they are meant to be driven. Let's face it, only you
will know that it is not numbers matching. And with many cars being
restored today that you see on 'OverHaulin' or on Barrett-Jackson, most are
using brand new Crate Motors. (click on pics to
